World Black Belt's First Sparring Club
Members ONLY

More Member benefits! The World Black Belt Sparring Club originated in Hawaii. The idea behind the club is to encourage martial artists from any organization to join without prejudice or politics. That’s why it’s a club and not a school or academy.

The World Black Belt Sparring Club recognizes American Freestyle Tournament rules. Held one or two Saturdays a month, it is a gathering of past and present champions. The more experienced Black Belts help and pass on all of the tricks of the trade to the up-and-coming champions. The first part of the session is half speed in close reflex training, rotating partners every 5 minutes. The next part of the session is 3 minute rounds, regular sparring. We use the honor system when scoring each other’s points. You spar as much or little as you want.

“Superstar” Barry Gordon was one of many who came to train at the first World Black Belt Sparring Club session. Other champions who joined us were Ron Pohnel - current national senior Champion, Charl Pohnel - current national woman’s Champion, Rodney Salizano - 3 time NBL World lightweight Champion, Joey Escobar - former International Grand Champion, Jeremy Sweet - all grown up now, was the 1986 Junior International Champion, and Ken Herrera - a Chuck Norris Black Belt from the 1980’s.

Everyone checks their ego at the door as well as paying a $5 training fee. You must be a World Black Belt Member to participate so please take advantage of our free membership if you are not already a member and would like to join the club. For more information about time and location contact Ron Pohnel at 1-818-705-7551.

Eric Breuer: Hey Guys GREAT IDEA!!! Kind of what Mr. Norris, Bob Wall, Joe Lewis and others were doing in the '60's.

A Little word on Ken Herrera: He is not only a "Chuck Norris black belt from the '80s". He is an outstanding martial artist and coach. He is a champion in his own right. He also was a co-team leader along with Tony Renzoni for the INTERSPORT/
UFAF team that visited the Shaolin tempel in 1990. They were one of the first groups to ever go live at the temple and train with the monks. Ken has been my friend for over 25 years. In all that time, I have never heard him seek credit or say a bad word about anyone. I am proud to be his friend.

Peace,
Eric Breuer
