Founder of Quenzel Self Defense
Passes Away

By:Bob Wall

Sadly, we've lost another terrific martial artist; Charles "Bill" Quenzel died Friday, February 20, 2009. I had the chance to speak with Grandmaster Quenzel for the last time 2 weeks before he passed away. He faced death like he lived his life - with great courage and honor! Founder of Quenze's Karate Self Defense (Martinsburg, West Virginia) in 1942, he dedicated a lifetime to the martial arts.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jean Elizabeth Everhart Quenzel; two daughters, Deborah J. Hammond of Bridgewater, Va., and Wendy A. Brown of Martinsburg; one son, David W. Quenzel of Martinsburg; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Jeff Schrembs: Our thoughts, and prayers, remain with the family/friends/loved ones of Bill Quenzel.

Sadly, in this World the only "promise" given...is that nothing is...promised.

In life we spend so much time making ourselves...busy that we don't fully appreciate/recognize the abilities/contributions of others.

However, when a man (or woman) of the character of Bill Quenzel is "introduced" everyone is (wholly) enhanced by the words, life lessons, honesty, and personana by the quality of the person such as Bill Quenzel.

To those who are suffering due to the loss of a loved one; May God give you the strength, day by day, so that your "loss" is replaced with the cherished memories/love/etc. of your loved one that passed away.

It is a "reminder" that we should always let those who we care about KNOW how much they mean to us. We should honor their love, as well, by giving to others...unselfishly.

We can make this World, and our legacy, a "better place" by one act of kindness...at a time.

Take care and God bless.
