Charles Quenzel

Founder of Quenzel Self Defense Passes Away

Sadly, we've lost another terrific martial artist; Charles "Bill" Quenzel died Friday, February 20, 2009. I had the chance to speak with Grandmaster Quenzel for the last time 2 weeks before he passed away. He faced death like he lived his life - with great courage and honor! Founder of Quenze's Karate Self Defense (Martinsburg, West Virginia) in 1942, he dedicated a lifetime to the martial arts.

Charles Quenzel was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jean Elizabeth Everhart Quenzel; two daughters, Deborah J. Hammond of Bridgewater, Va., and Wendy A. Brown of Martinsburg; one son, David W. Quenzel of Martinsburg; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
